Graduate Prospectus 2010-11
Providing a guarantee of your funding
Any offer of a place at Cambridge will depend on your providing a ‘Financial Undertaking’ that you can afford to study here, and you may be required to provide evidence of this. All applicants who receive a conditional offer receive an offer booklet which contains the financial undertaking form. The form is also available to download from self-service. If we make you an offer, we shall calculate the amount of financial liability you will need to meet, and tell you about it in the offer letter.
If you bring dependent relatives with you, this will increase the amount of money you will need (See costs and fees) . When you apply for your course, include details on the personal data sheet section of the Graduate Application Form (GRADSAF) of any persons who will accompany you to Cambridge.
If you are a student from overseas, you should allow for variations in the exchange rate between sterling and your own currency. We strongly recommend that you secure the amount available to you in sterling.
If you are admitted to a Master’s course as a stepping stone to a research degree, you will be required to show you have sufficient funding to complete the one-year course and, if approved to continue to the PhD, you will then be asked to provide a financial commitment for the remainder of the course i.e. for a further three years at that point. However, linked MPhil - PhD courses in the Graduate School of Life Sciences require funding for all four years at the outset.
