The Application and Admission Process

Decisions on admission to the University are made purely on academic merit, the availability of space on a course, and / or the availability of an appropriate supervisor.

You may apply to be considered for as many courses as you wish, but you must provide a full set (including copies) of supporting documents for EACH course you apply for. You will also be charged a non-refundable application fee for each course. You may not apply more than once to the same course - for example you cannot apply twice to the same PhD course with two different research proposals.

Please note that it is not possible to be awarded the same degree twice by the University of Cambridge. For example, if you have already been admitted to the MPhil or the PhD, it is not possible to be awarded the same degree again, even if you choose to study a different subject. You may in these circumstances apply to follow the course, but no qualification can be awarded.

Board of Graduate Studies

The Board of Graduate Studies (BGS) is responsible for the admissions process for all courses described in this Prospectus unless stated otherwise. For non-BGS courses (eg MBA, MEd, PGCE), please contact the appropriate department or institute directly. The application procedure for certain courses might differ from the standard procedure described here, so always check the specific instructions given for each course.
