Graduate Prospectus 2010-11

Applying online

If you have not previously made an online application to the University of Cambridge, it is essential that you read the notes below before proceeding to the online application pages. Please note that there two stages to applying online – submitting the online application form and sending us the required accompanying documentation. We cannot process your application until both stages are completed.

If you wish to continue with an existing application please follow the link below.

Do not use the online application process to apply to Continue as a Graduate Student or to be Readmitted as a Graduate Student. Instead, please see the following:

Setting up your account

You will first be asked to set up an account (with your email address as your user name). Please make a note of your password as you will need it to monitor the status of your application. After setting up your account, you will be able to make an application for the course of your choice, and to complete the information needed for the form. Use the course details in this prospectus as a guide to selecting your course and preparation of the information you will put in the online form.

Submitting your online application

To make a complete on-line application for admission to a graduate course you must submit:

a) the GRADSAF application form - on-line and then
b) all required supporting documents - in hard copy

Once you have submitted the on-line GRADSAF application form you will be sent an email within 24 hours giving you access to your self-service area. Here you will find a cover sheet which will tell you exactly what supporting documents you need to submit with your application, how many copies are required and where you should send them. You must print out the cover sheet, attach all required supporting documentation and send the entire package to the relevant address..

References: Your referees will have to complete a cover sheet. You may find it helpful therefore to download the reference cover sheets in advance of submitting the online GRADSAF application form. However, do not send in your references until after you have made your online application. Please note that if you are eligible and wish to apply for awards offered by the Cambridge Trusts you must submit the third, personal reference.

If you apply for more than one course you will need to submit a full set of supporting documentation for each application.

If you choose to apply online you should not use any of the paper application materials in this prospectus as this will cause a delay in dealing with your application.

When you submit your application, you will be asked to pay the application charge of £35, by providing your credit card details to our secure server. The charge is not refundable.

The University of Cambridge accepts the following credit cards as payment for the online service:

Email and fax applications

Please DO NOT apply by email or by fax - we will not accept applications of this kind. You must send your supporting documents to us by post - it is not currently possible to upload them with your online application.

Applying for funding

Please see the Funding section for details. You will probably not learn about the result of your funding application until some time after the result of your academic application. You should bear in mind that your funding application might be unsuccessful and we strongly recommend that you investigate other sources of funding which may be available to you. Please note that having been awarded funding by an outside body does not guarantee that you will receive an offer of admission to the University.
